Yakun Kaya Toast ... A tasty toast from Singapore This is one of not-so-many toast food stall that I really fall in love. I know this brand for quite sometimes and I met the kaya toast for the first time on my very first trip to Singapore with my family many years ago. I had no idea about it but I saw a very long queue at Takashimaya Department Store in front of a small food corner and I presumed that it must be really good and it was as expected. I have to say it is a very unique kaya toast as it is very crispy and thin unlike Thai style and there is one small piece of butter inside the toast with custard filling. There are quite a few choices of filling and you may try as many as you like but the original is one of my favorite dish. On your very first time, I would recommend you to try the original kaya toast with soft-boiled eggs and one of your favorite drink. It goes well with traditional coffee or tea or even iced Milo. A value set might be a good start. Taste: 4/5 I felt that the taste of the kaya toast was pretty much the same as it was in Singapore. Soft-boiled eggs were perfectly cooked along with iced lemon tea or Milo. Overall was really good. Food Variety: 4/5 As I said they added new menu which gave you more choices to try. Service: 3.5/5 Service level was fine but not that impressive or maybe I had a really high standard and I felt that their staff should learn how to smile. Atmosphere: 3/5 It was a really small food stall with around 4-5 tables inside and those were not private. It just a place to take some rest with toast and had a little chit chat with friends but it was not for business talk as I rather went down to chill out at Starbucks downstair. Price: $$ It was acceptable and I paid around 250 THB for what you saw in my picture; 1 set of kaya toast, 2 dished of soft-boiled eggs, iced Milo and iced lemon tea. Tip: This is a franchise branch from Singapore so you will see quite a few of new menu. I think it is like a mixture of Singapore taste and Thai taste but to be honest, I rather go for original ones than a newly made dishes.
It is now located at Mercury Ville which is the opposite of Central Chidlom and next to BTS Chidlom Station. It is extremely convenience for you to commute around and drop by to have a late afternoon tea with maya toast. |
